You don’t have to take a big vacation to another state or country for a reprieve. Sometimes all you need is a day off from work to treat yourself in order to regroup and feel rejuvenated.
If we don’t allow ourselves time to rest or a moment to do something good for ourselves, burnout can definitely catch up with us. Here are six ways you can treat yourself on your next day off.
1. Take Time to Genuinely Relax
This might sound counterintuitive, but when your life is overly hectic and you feel like you’re on the verge of burnout, taking time to do absolutely nothing could be just what your mind and body need.
Give yourself permission to curl on the couch to catch up on your favorite show or even take a nap. Read a good book in bed or listen to relaxing background music. Let your mind step away from responsibilities. They’ll still be there when you’re fully rested and ready to take on the day tomorrow.
2. Have an In-Home Spa Day
There is nothing better than taking a day to pamper your body. It’s a way of appreciating it for all that it does for you. Taking care of ourselves also means taking care of our skin. An in-home spa day may be just what you need.
Treat yourself to new skincare products like Image Skincare. They have facial cleansers, serums, masks, and more to set you and your skin up for a lovely treat.
3. Buy Yourself Something Nice
There isn’t anything more fun than treating yourself to something you’ve always wanted. This also doesn’t mean you have to go on a shopping spree and spiral into debt.
I tend to be a fairly frugal spender and rarely buy anything for myself. But the last time I needed to take a day to treat myself, I purchased a Polaroid camera. I had always wanted one and worked hard, so I figured I’d splurge a little. And by a little, I mean $60. Maybe there is a bathing suit you’ve been eyeballing online or a new set of comfy pillows for your bed. It’s okay to treat yourself. As I said, you deserve it.
4. Take Yourself on a Date
I don’t know about you but when I need a day to treat myself, I prefer to do it alone. We spend so much time catering to other people like our kids, our coworkers, or our friends. Sometimes we require a little solitude.
Try taking yourself on a date. Dress up nice and go out to dinner. See a movie by yourself. Head out onto the water and rent a paddleboard. Remember, we can’t take care of anyone else unless we take care of ourselves first.
5. Bust Out Your Favorite Hobbies
When was the last time you played guitar or spent a little time working on that quilt? When life gets busy, we tend to forget about the things that fill our cups. If you need a day or even just a few hours to yourself, tap back into your hobbies.
Go for a long run like you used to love doing. Order a nice coffee from the local shop and do that puzzle you’ve been talking about finishing for so long. Take your longboard out for a cruise around the neighborhood. Do something for a few hours that recenters yourself and reminds you of what life, to you, is all about.
6. Bake Something Just Because
Whether you like sweet and savory or something salty, baking yourself a little (or big) treat is worth it. Not only will there be a delicious reward at the end waiting for you, but baking is also therapeutic. It’s true! Baking is used for behavioral activation. It’s a type of therapy that helps people with depression and other mood disorders to preoccupy your mind on a specific task.
A day off to treat yourself doesn’t have to be some ornate and elaborate experience. “Sometimes it’s the little things that can make all the difference”.
