If you love traveling in Italy, then Milan may be on your list of places to visit. There are many activities and sights to see. You don’t want to miss anything exciting, interesting, or fun, so here are three suggestions of things to do while in Milan.
1. Go Shopping
Of course, one of the main things Milan is known for is shopping. There are many shops throughout the city where you can find any fashion to suit your taste. There are high-end designers, elegant secondhand stores, and shops selling vintage clothing. There are also small, family-run shops and mid-priced clothing stores. A smaller shop may be a good choice if you are looking for handmade goods.
If you are looking for high fashion shops, try visiting some flagship stores, many of which are at Via Montenapoleone. Valentino, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Versace are just some of the luxury stores you can visit. Dolce & Gabbana, for example, has a flagship store with exquisite marble, deep colors, and lighting that showcases each area of the store. This design makes it a store worth seeing.
For more of a luxury mall experience, try shopping at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. You’ll find plenty of luxury shops and cafes. Even if you don’t want to shop, it is still a stunning place worth seeing. The building is decorated elegantly, with intricate glass ceilings and beautiful storefronts.
2. Go Sightseeing
Milan is home to some of the world’s most beautiful artwork and architecture. While there are dozens of historical places to see, some of the most popular stops include the Duomo di Milano, Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, and the Teatro alla Scala. You may also want to take a day trip to nearby locations, like Lake Como.
The Duomo di Milano is one of the most impressive sights, so try not to miss it. The cathedral is made up of pink marble and stained glass, making it a beautiful stop during your trip. If you enjoy the theatre, opera, or ballet, then the Teatro alla Scala is also a must during your visit. If you want to see a performance, you need to plan. Tickets for some shows sell out two to three months in advance, so keep that in mind.
The Last Supper is a masterpiece worth seeing. Located in the Santa Maria delle Grazie church, crowds are limited to 15 people at a time. This restriction is because the fresco is damaged, so it’s best to buy tickets early if you want to see this artwork.
3. Enjoy the Food
Italy has plenty of food and dining options you should try out. Trying the different savory dishes available like pizza and pasta is essential when dining out in Milan. There are dozens of places to try, some with unique recipes and history. For dessert, gelato is an excellent choice, especially during the summer. Gelateria, or gelato shops, are found throughout Milan, and they sell delectable treats. Gelato comes in a variety of flavors and is not like regular ice cream.
If you have the time and are interested, try an aperitivo. It is a happy hour, and you can meet new people and get a glimpse into authentic Italian culture. The aperitivo starts later in the evening, and you can enjoy a drink and a buffet. If you enjoy learning about a different culture and want to make some new friends, consider enjoying this late-night treat.
These ideas are only a sampling of things you can do in Milan. Take in the culture, sights, and food to have a fun and worthwhile trip. Shopping is unlike anywhere else in the world, so be sure not to miss it. There are plenty of shops, historic buildings, and delicious food to enjoy while in Milan.
