When deciding on a country, here are some things to consider:

  1. How easy it is to obtain a work visa;
  2. The cost of living;
  3. The job opportunities in that country.

Without further ado, we’ve put together a list of the countries you might want to consider:

1. South Korea

South Korea is a beautiful country with a rich cultural heritage and plenty of fantastic scenery. It’s also one of the best countries for you to work in as an English teacher.

Most job offers also provide accommodation, and obtaining a work visa is relatively easy. And you don’t even have to start looking for a job before coming to South Korea! They apparently offer a job-seeker visa (D-10-1), “meant for foreign nationals who plan to engage in a training or finding a job.”

If you aren’t looking for something long-term, you can also try applying for a working holiday visa, that allows you to stay and work in the country for a year. It’s a perfect option for modern digital nomads!

2. Indonesia

Another country you should consider is Indonesia, and for one simple reason: the number of breathtaking destinations you can visit. We’ve all heard of Bali, but Indonesia has more to offer.

The low cost of living is a huge factor that makes Indonesia worthy of consideration. According to statistics, the cost of living in Indonesia is, on average, 55.63% lower than in the United States, and rent in Indonesia is, on average, 82.57% lower than in the United States.

Also, the government of Indonesia has announced it is planning to launch an Indonesian digital nomad visa, which aims to entice more foreign freelance and remote workers to the country and its many attractive islands.

3. Portugal

If you’re looking for a place to work remotely from Europe, why not consider Portugal? Portugal has excellent weather, lots of English-speaking locals, and is considered safe. It also offers a digital nomad visa for remote workers.

It’s a great place to stay because of the low cost of rent and the amount of good food you’ll get to explore. And most importantly, Portugal has a good Internet connection.

4. Mexico

Mexico has always been a popular tourist destination, and we all can see why. It has a bustling nightlife, delicious food, and a low cost of living. But if you’re interested in temporarily staying in Mexico to work, you’d also love the fact that it has relaxed visa rules and modern amenities.

It’s a very large and diverse country, with lots of destinations you can explore. It has plenty of coworking spaces with a stable, good Internet connection to boot.

5. Estonia

Last but not least, we have Estonia. When talking about working remotely, you may not see it coming, but Estonia is one of the most popular countries to work remotely in. This European country has a fast and reliable internet connection, a low cost of living, and a digital nomad visa.

So, there you go! Those are the five countries you should definitely consider if you want to try working abroad.

But apart from deciding where to go, before actually making the move, you should always make sure that you have your remote work tech essential checklist prepared and checked. For example, you might want to have an external hard drive, 3 prongs to 2 prong outlet adapter, or headphones, webcam, and microphone ready. Those would definitely make the move easier, and your stay way more enjoyable!
