It’s decided, the good weather is back and you’ll be receiving all your friends and family in the garden. Even if it’s outside, a garden party needs to be organised. Of course, there will be children running around, glasses on the lawn but there’s nothing to stop you from entertaining in the right way, as garden parties have their own rules. The first is conviviality. For the others, here’s a little guide of what you need to do and what you shouldn’t forget to make your party perfect.
1. Avoid stress
Of course, guests will need to confirm their attendance so that you can buy enough food and drink, but unlike a traditional meal, at a garden party the timing is flexible. Sometimes people invited at noon linger until evening. So plan a little more.
2. It’s all about the theme !
From the snacks to the decoration, possibly with a dress code: choose an original theme for your garden party. The tropical atmosphere is very trendy and even more appropriate if you are lucky enough to have a pool.
Dare to use pink flamingo objects and pineapple and watermelon motifs. And guests will probably be more willing to let loose and follow the theme at a garden party than at a more formal indoor meal.
3. Transform your garden
Not enough chairs for everyone? Don’t worry, create a cosy outdoor area and create a lounge in your garden with comfy cushions, pallets for a table, and maybe even a rug. If you have a garden shed or a small garden office, consider using this room for your garden party, for example, for people who might be a little cold outside.
You will be delighted to see the versatility of these wooden constructions ! In the spring it can be a little chilly, so provide plaids and heaters for your guests.
4. Prepare the dishes in advance
This is not the time to show off your culinary skills, or you’ll be stuck in the kitchen for the whole party instead of enjoying the garden. Instead, think about appetizers such as salmon rolls, bruschetta, mini soups and fruit brochettes, which your guests can nibble on while sitting and standing.
Have hot and cold drinks available to satisfy every taste, from hot chocolate to alcohol-free cocktails !
5. Decorate the table
To make the meal more convivial, you can put a rug under the table and cushions on the chairs. The tablecloth, its colour and pattern will be the starting point for your table decoration, unless of course you have a theme.
Choose the centrepieces and napkins accordingly. To give your garden party a country feel, you can distil retro-style tableware, such as vases, mismatched brocades and plates.
6. Don’t forget the music
The garden party is also the perfect time to let loose and dance. No party without music! Provide a sound system or, more modestly, a loudspeaker or a system that will bring the sound outside. You can hide them discreetly behind plants.
Good music at the start of the party will make guests feel comfortable and upbeat. Plan a “feel good” playlist, both happy and neutral.
Keep being AllDayChic!
