3 Questions You Should Ask When Speaking with a Plastic Surgeon

If you’re living in a major city, there are probably hundreds of plastic surgeons that you can choose from. You cannot pick just anyone though, since plastic surgery is so personal, and the repercussions could last a lifetime. You’ll also be trusting this person with your life depending on how intrusive the procedure is.

So, you have to know what to look for and ask the right questions so you can tell the bad apples from the rest. Here are some of the questions you should ask when speaking with a plastic surgeon.

1. Are You Licensed to Work in the State and What is Your Expertise?

The very first thing you should do when speaking with a plastic surgeon is to ask if they’re allowed to operate in the state lawfully and what their expertise is. They should be able to show their American Board of Plastic Surgery certification at the very least. Make sure that you check what certifications are needed from the state and follow up with any credentials they give you.

Some states will also have specific rules regarding certain procedures to prevent complications and the only way to ensure that everything is done the way it should is to go with a licensed surgeon. Florida, for instance, will limit the amount of fat that can be removed through a single liposuction. This limit is currently at four liters.

So, if you’re in Florida, it would be wise that you go with an experienced plastic surgeon in Florida like Dr Egozi who is used to this kind of procedure and will make sure that it’s done according to the local laws and regulations.

2. Can I See Some Pictures and References?

Next, you need to see some of the results the surgeon was able to get for their clients. If the procedure is for your face, pay very close attention to the facial structure of the people they have treated. This will give you an idea of what kind of people the doctor in question is used to treating and if it would be a good idea to go with them.

You should try to get in contact with one of the people they’ve worked with. Make sure that it is recent work too. Ask them about the rapport they had with the surgeon, how they were treated after the procedure, and a few details about recovery.

3. What Are the Possible Complications?

Your first consultation is when you should ask all your questions about the procedure and what you can expect during and after. The surgeon should be ready and willing to share all the information you need on how the procedure is going to go, what kind of anesthesia you’ll need to go under, how long the procedure is going to last, and what the complication rate is.

If they act like everything is going to be fine and that there are no risks, think twice about going with them. This is a sign of someone that is after your money first and not your wellbeing.

These questions will allow you to quickly find out if you should go with a specific plastic surgeon or not. Evaluate the rapport you have as well as your gut feeling since this can tell you a lot more than you think about a medical professional.
