The 5 Biggest Secrets to Planning a Luxury Vacation

If you’re like us, you’re chomping at the bit to get out and travel the world. After a year of shutdowns, it’s finally becoming practical to hop on a plane and indulge in travel. The question is, how do you plan the perfect luxury vacation?

5 Tips for a Breathtaking Luxury Vacation

Every trip has its own feel. Sometimes you escape to the mountains for a quaint weekend getaway. Other times you load up the car and take the family to Disney World. There are road trips and city excursions – holidays at the grandparents and stress-filled business trips. But sometimes you just want to release the tension and enjoy a pampered excursion.

Luxury vacations are intended for one thing: relaxation. And if you want to enjoy the ultimate relaxing getaway, we’d highly encourage you to keep the following tips in mind:

1. Plan Early

If there’s one thing that is not relaxing, it’s trying to throw together a trip at the last minute. If you’re going to do it right, you should begin planning several months in advance. (You don’t have to book everything this far in advance, but you should be researching options and gathering information to help you make informed choices.)

As you gather information, you’ll get a feel for where other people like to travel, which places to visit/avoid, how much flights are, what meals cost, transportation logistics, etc. Then, when it does come time to book, you’ll know exactly how to maximize the experience.

2. Set a Budget

Luxury doesn’t mean “irresponsible.” Unless you’re in the one-percent club – in which case you’re probably better off hiring a luxury travel planner than reading this post – a budget is an important part of planning a vacation.

The extent of your budget will dictate many of your decisions. However, don’t feel like you have to spend $10,000 or $20,000 just to experience luxury. There are plenty of incredible vacations that can be planned at a small fraction of this cost. (Do some research and don’t be afraid to go a little further off the beaten path. Places like Vietnam, Thailand, South Africa, and islands in the Caribbean can be much more affordable.

Regardless of where you choose to travel, set a budget and stick to it. You’ll enjoy your experience much more when you aren’t worried about how much you’re spending (or whether you’re overpaying).

3. Choose the Right Amenities

Luxury happens at your pace. It’s the absence of chaos and the presence of relaxation. It’s about indulging your senses and enjoying the moment. So much of a luxury experience is dictated by the amenities you have around you – so choose wisely.

If you’re looking for an intimate experience where you can lounge during the day, soak in the rays, and enjoy good food and drink at night, a cruise through the Greek Islands could be your speed. If your idea of luxury is shopping, dining, and posh parties, renting a penthouse in Los Angeles would be more enjoyable. It’s all up to you!

4. Set Intentions

What do you want out of your luxury trip?

“After the initial groundwork of finding the perfect location, it is important to figure out what it is that you are looking to get out of this trip,” travel planner Neha Menon writes. “For instance, if you want to feel relaxed and rejuvenated, maybe a trip to the coastal region or countryside might be ideal. Or if you are looking to seek thrill and adventure, a trip to the mountains will be a better idea.”

Push outside expectations to the side and think about what you want. What does your definition of relaxation look like? And where can you create an experience that brings it to fruition?

5. Leave Stress on the Tarmac

Whatever you do, make sure you leave your stress behind. Plan the details of the trip ahead of time so that you can spend your vacation relaxing. Try to disconnect from technology as much as possible and enjoy the time you have. That’s the secret to a fantastic trip.
