The latest hair trend, the glitter roots hair takes your love for glitter to a whole new level; who says it’s unacceptable to sprinkle glitter on your hair roots? Then again, if you don’t know how to do it right, you may end up looking like you’ve got sparkling dandruff. Totally not cool.

To save you from any hair disaster, self-taught makeup artist Shae is here to save the day. Through a video uploaded on her YouTube channel, Shae shared a thorough tutorial on how to recreate this quirky trend.

To begin, you’ll need to get yourself a salon bowl, or basically just any bowl will do (you may want to use an old one though, since there’s a good chance you won’t be able to use it anymore). Then, get a tint brush, extra strong hair wax (or pomade if you don’t have one around), and finally a tube of hair gel! And also, last but not the least, you’ll need colorful glitters to apply on your roots.

Let’s get started!

First, you’d have to squeeze quite an amount of hair gel to the bowl. Then, goes the glitter inside! You can mix several colored glitters in; there’s no fixed color combination, so feel free to mix any color you like. However, it’s better to start with lighter colors, and add darker colors next. Next step, grab your towel and then start applying the mixture on your roots! Make sure you apply it evenly, though, all the way to the back of your head.

Once you’re done, use a hairdryer to blow dries your roots for 5 to 10 minutes until the glittered wax sticks perfectly to your roots. Once it has dried, move on to the next layer; the center! This time, instead of hair gel, you’d have to grab your hair wax or pomade and if possible, latex gloves. Then start applying the wax to your scalp, the middle part of your hair. Then, grab the glitter and start applying it on the waxed scalp. Finally, apply hair spray to make sure your glittered roots stay!

Shae also shared her tips on removing the glitter; all you need is clarifying shampoo to get rid of the glitter. Are you ready to glitter up your roots?
